What to Expect

What to Expect

Welcome to the West Murray Church of Christ website. We are glad you found us. Here is what you will see if you visit in person and worship with us.

Kindness
Everyone will be greeted with courtesy and kindness (Acts 10:34 - 35; Gal. 3:28).

Prayer
A sense of good order will prevail at every service (1 Cor. 14:33, 40). You will see one of the members leading the congregation reverently and quietly in prayer (1 Tim. 2:1 - 5).

The Lord's Supper
If you visit on Sunday, the Lord's day, you will see the congregation partaking of the Lord's supper: eating bread and drinking of the fruit of the vine in memory of the death of Christ (Matt. 26:26 - 29). We do this every Sunday, like Christians in the first century (Acts 20:7).

Giving
You will see that a collection is taken only on Sunday and at no other time (1 Cor. 16:1 - 3). This congregation is supported by the free will offerings of its members. We do not ask nonmembers or visitors to financially support our work.

Singing
Like the first century Christians we engage in acapella singing of songs, hymns, and spiritual songs (Eph. 5:19). An organ, piano, or other musical instruments are never used. The words of our songs are easy to understand (1 Cor. 14:15) and sung from the heart (Col. 3:16).

The Bible
The Bible is our only guide. The Bible is the book we study in our classes and refer to in our sermons. You will never be asked to accept what some man says about the Bible; rather, we want you to read the Bible for yourself (Acts 17:11). We want you to meditate and study on the things that you see and hear. You will hear God's plan for your salvation: faith in Christ (Rom. 10:17); repentance (Luke 24:27); confession of faith in Christ (Rom. 10:9 - 10); and baptism for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).

We strive to worship and serve God in the same way the early disciples did. Christ is our only creed and the Scriptures our only guide. The Bible is the final authority (Col. 3:17, Matt. 23:9) and we are certain that the Bible can be understood by everyone (1 Peter 2:2).

We are an independent and self-governed group, as God's Word directs. We serve God without belonging to any denomination. If this appeals to you, please contact us, or better still, come and visit.
