Moment of Truth

MOMENT OF TRUTH

It happens daily. You say one thing, and shortly thereafter, you find out if you meant it. It is pass or fail; don’t sugar coat it, be real, be transparent to yourself.
PROFESSED:
“this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “ Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these   signs that You do unless  God is with him.” (John 3:2). Nicodemus says he believes, obviously.
TEST- MOMENT OF TRUTH
“Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one  is born  again he cannot see  the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus  said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old?” (John 3:3).
MOMENT FAILED
Nicodemus refused to follow through with his faith, and be baptized and change. Jesus points his failure out to him, “If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?” (John 3:12).

PROFESSED:
This man, “was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.” (John 4:47
TEST- MOMENT OF TRUTH
“Jesus  said to him, “ Go; your son lives.” (4:50).
MOMENT OF SUCCESS
“The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off.” (4:50). By obeying what Jesus said, he shows his true faith.

PROFESSED:
The apostles say, “Now we know that You know all things, and have no need for anyone to question You; by this we  believe that You came from God.” (John 16.30).
TEST- MOMENT OF TRUTH
“Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? “Behold,  an hour is coming, and has already come, for  you to be scattered, each to  his own home, and to leave Me alone” (John 16:31-32). Jesus questions the apostles’ profession of faith because it doesn’t match what will happen a few moments later.
MOMENT FAILED
“And they all left Him and fled”. (Mark 14:50).

They said they believed, but a moment later they all fled. Jesus is the one who raised the question, “Do you now believe?” (John 16:31). By their actions, they really didn’t believe. Thankfully, out of sorrow, regret, and love for Jesus, the apostles began to have many moments of success in the years to come. Let us glorify God by doing the same. A moment of truth is right around the corner. Let’s match our profession of faith with our actions.   What does it look like to completely believe?       Dan Peters
